Post 17: My life in an image

My laundry literally feels like it never ends.  I think that my family is made up of super-heros who change their outfits multiple times a day.  I am the superhero whose only power is to wash and dry the clothing, not fold and put them away-that is my kryptonite.

Post 16: Mythological elements in a poem

The Poem, Latin Night at the Pawn Shop, by Martin Espada uses a couple of mythological elements.  The poem uses the phrase, "apparition of a salsa band".  An apparition is a ghost or a ghostlike image of something.  Espada describes the instruments for sale in a pawn shop as the apparitions of a salsa band because they aren't being used and they have been put away to die.  Espada also uses the line, "all with price tags dangling like the city morgue ticket on a dead man's toe".  This further shows to the reader that the author compares the instruments in the store to a salsa band that has seen it's last day.  The mythological element that is present is the archetype of death.

Post 15: Mythology

Mythological elements that may be present in my life... *The Number 1018.  Lots of weird stuff going on here.  I see the number 1018 all the time and I mean all the time.  Always have.  If i open a book, page 1018, see an address, its 1018.  I was born at 10:18  in the morning and my best friend was born October 18th.  There are so many occurrences of this number in my life that I joke about when I go to heaven, I'm going to ask God what the deal was with that.  I predict He is going to tell me that it wasn't anything at all and He was just jacking with me.

Post 14: My verse

I would love nothing more than to one day, than to be the type of woman that is described in the following verses.   Proverbs 31:10-31  The Bible- The message translation Hymn to a Good Wife 10-31  A good woman is hard to find,      and worth far more than diamonds. Her husband trusts her without reserve,      and never has reason to regret it. Never spiteful, she treats him generously      all her life long. She shops around for the best yarns and cottons,      and enjoys knitting and sewing. She’s like a trading ship that sails to faraway places      and brings back exotic surprises. She’s up before dawn, preparing breakfast      for her family and organizing her day. She looks over a field and buys it,      then, with money she’s put aside, plants a garden. First thing in the morning, she dresses for work,   ...

Post 13: Favorite lyrics to a song

When the stars burn down and the earth wears out And we stand before the throne With the witnesses who have gone before We will rise and all applaud Singing blessing and honor, glory and power Forever to our God The words in bold are lyrics from a song by Gospel artists, Phillips, Craig and Dean.  The name of the song is When the Stars Burn Down.  Everytime I hear that line in the song it stirs up many emotions in me and gives me a sense of peace and excitement at the same time.  It is a song that touches me.

My Life's Theme

The current them of my life is get in there and get it done.  I have tried college more times than I want to admit.  Life has gotten in the way in the past and I have dropped school only to pick it up again, years later.  I have always wanted to be a teacher for my "real job". I love the idea of grading papers, using red pen, using a chalkboard, taking attendance, having a desk-things that I acted out a child. Along with being a teacher, I also wanted to be an astronaut, a paleontologist, and a marine biologist. Could I have done those things?  Yes.  I could have done all of those things if I would have TRIED.  Here it is, 2017 and I find myself in the classroom again.  I am looking forward to graduating and starting my "real job" as a teacher and fulfilling my dream.
